What is Shawarma Spice, and Why Does It Make Everything Taste Amazing?
If you’ve ever savored the bold, aromatic flavors of Middle Eastern street food, chances are you've experienced the magic of Shawarma Spice. This versatile seasoning blend brings your dishes to life with its warm, earthy, and slightly smoky taste that pairs perfectly with meats, veggies, and more. But what exactly is in shawarma spice, and how can you use it at home to elevate your cooking? Let’s dive in!
The History of Shawarma Spice
The origins of shawarma trace back to the Ottoman Empire, where the method of grilling meat on a vertical spit became popular. Over time, the dish evolved and spread across the Middle East, incorporating local spices and flavors to create the shawarma we know today.
The word “shawarma” itself comes from the Turkish term “çevirme,” meaning “to turn,” referencing the rotating spit used to cook the marinated meat. As shawarma gained popularity, so did the unique spice blends used to flavor the meat. These blends vary by region but commonly include spices like cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, and cardamom, creating a savory and slightly smoky profile.
At Always Flavored, we honor this rich culinary tradition with our handcrafted Shawarma Spice Blend, made from fresh, all-natural ingredients to deliver authentic flavor with every sprinkle. Shop Shawarma Spice here.
